Abstract [eng] The subject of the research is Specifics of Methods of Breathing Technique Training, Their Impact on the Quality of Playing Music The research has been carried out by Alma Kriukaitė a second year postgraduate studies student of Music Education Department of Šiauliai university. The training methods of the breathing techniques analyzed in the paper offer greater opportunities to develop the quality of the pupils' musical performance. There is not enough systematic and updated information in Lithuanian about different ways of teaching breathing techniques or working with singers and wind instrument players. The analysis of the books on vocal techniques showed that only a few authors distinguish the importance of proper breathing for musical performance. The survey is conducted on the basis set in a hypothetical assumption that it is likely that the greater part of the vocal and wind instrument teachers do not follow the methods of breathing techniques as a tool for improving the quality of the musical performance. The subject of this study is the methods of breathing techniques. The main objective of the study is to explore the influence of training methods of breathing techniques on the quality of musical performance. In addition, the study helps to determine whether vocal or the winds teachers are using training methods of breathing techniques as a means to improve the quality of musical performance. The study provides the training methods of the breathing techniques recommended by Lithuanian and foreign teachers. Furthermore, the factors which have significant impact on the quality of the musical performance are analyzed. Empirical study involved 242 respondents. Teachers of singing and wind instrumentalists were interviewed in order to find out whether the methodology as well as the methods used by the teachers is efficient. The students who are taught by these teachers were also interviewed. Thus 75 teachers and 167 students from Kelmė, Radviliškis, Šiauliai, and Joniškis music schools participated as respondents in this research. The analysis of the data set in the responses confirms the hypothesis that the majority of vocal and wind instrument teachers do not pay sufficient attention to training breathing techniques while developing students' musical abilities. The study shows that 100% of the surveyed teachers believe that the quality of musical performance is directly dependent on the properly trained breathing techniques. Breathing techniques are developed by 72% of teachers. However, most of them use elementary and fairly simple exercises, not always stressing the importance of diaphragmatic breathing. Moreover, the study shows that some teachers use outdated and inefficient methods of breathing techniques.
