Abstract [eng] According to Daukšienė, Gudžinskienė (2002), social skills are an integral part of our lives. In contemporary press, pedagogical and psychological literature and the documents regulating education the necessity to develop children’s social skills is discussed. Appropriate social skills acquired in childhood have a huge impact on further life of the individual. The ability to communicate, self-control, appropriate behaviour at school, understanding of feelings and the ability to cope with stress – all these factors may be defined as the main social skills which have to be developed for every child. Child’s behaviour depends on them because he/she is oriented not only towards himself/herself but towards the surrounding environment. Social and scientific relevance of the research enabled to formulate the following questions of concern: 1. What social skills are developed for children from social risk families attending Day Center and school? 2. What could be the model of social skills development? The aim of the Master’s thesis is to create social skills development model after the identification of educational features of the children attending the Day Center. The subject of the research is the peculiarities of the development of social skills. The qualitative research was carried out. The choice of the research method was determined by the provision that this type of research will help to clarify the situation and will help to improve practical activity in order to solve the existing problems. N=9 children from social risk families and N=3 specialists from the social field were interviewed. In the empirical part of the work the peculiarities of the development of social skills of the children from social risk families are analysed. The main conclusions of the empirical research are as follows: 1.The scientific literature analysis and the analysis of the research data identified the necessity to create a model of social skills development of the children attending the Day Center. 2.The results of content analysis identified the necessity of the social skills development for the children attending the Day Center. The lack of social skills development in Ginkūnai village Šiauliai district Children Day Center and school was revealed.
