Abstract [eng] |
Interests on bullying problem in Lithuania began in 1994, when Lithuania joined an international research on students' lifestyle and health, coordinated by the Global Health Organization. According to the data from research named \"Battle against poverty of children and promotion of social children range\" that was published in 2007, Lithuania was in the last place of all 25 EU countries by most of the indicators of children welfare, especially by child's \"risk and safety\" (Poviliūnas, 2007). Ensuring the feeling of safety in schools is the most important priority of today's schools and child's rights defender's because only by creating safe and comfortable environment to the children it will be possible to try and achieve set purposes of education and happy childhood. Object of the research - prevention of violence and bullying as an assumption of a school safe to the children in a secondary school. Purpose of the research - assess the means by which safe atmosphere in school is being created. In order to find out the situation of bullying and violence in secondary shools and properties of prevention activities, a questionnaire has been carried out, where 142 social educators from village and city schools participated. They were chosen by the \"snowball method\" and concept of voluntaryism. In order to realise how children understand what \"the safe school\" means, an \"unfinished sentence\" method was applied - 55 participants which were students from 8th to 10th grade were given a task to finish writing a sentence \"The safe school is...\". To unravel the problem more thoroughly, the method of interview was used. Two social educators were questioned - one working in the city school and the other in the village school. The research has shown that for bullying and violence prevention, as an assumption of creation of safe school to children, there is not enough attention given because bullying and violence is a common problem in schools. There are various types of prevention activity in schools: class hours, discussions, events about bullying and violence and other activities initiated by school's group of prevention specialists. After analysing the interview it was determined that children do not feel safe in schools. It leads to assumption that even though various prevention programmes are being held and effort is being made to ensure a positive environment to the child's psychologic growth, still not every child is safe from violence and bullying. |
