Abstract [eng] In the book “Lietuvių literatūra svetur 1945-1967” K. Keblys says, that the novel “Miškais ateina ruduo” (1957) by M. Katiliškis together with the works of such Lithuanian writers as “Mėnesiena” (1957) by A. Baronas and “Balta drobulė” (1958) by Škėma stood out from other works written in 1956-1959. The novels of the first two authors were breath fresh impetus in Lithuanian literature. The biggest contribution was of the novel “Balta drobulė” by A. Škėma and the period of 1956-1959 is associated with the novel “Balta drobulė” by A. Škėma. But M. Katiliškis with this novel stands out from other writers in Lithuanian literature because of its bold spread of eroticism. The topic of the thesis is the spread of eroticism in the novel “Miškais ateina ruduo” by M. Katiliškis. The selection of the topic was determined by the wish to reveal the attitude of the author and his contemporaries towards erotika, to see how each of them perceived and portrayed rather relevant subjects which seem unacceptable (taboo) subjects to Lithuanian nation. The aim of this paper is to investigate the spread of the eroticism in the novel “Miškais ateina ruduo” by M. Katiliškis. As a means of background taking the novel “Klaida” (1909) by Lazdynų Pelėda, “Žemės giesmė” (1911) by A. Kazys Puida, the novel “Blūdas, arba Lietuva buvusios Rosijos mete” (1912) by J. Lindė-Dobilas, “Pragiedruliai”. Vaizdai kovos dėl kultūros. Gondingos kraštas I T (1918) by Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas, “Pragiedruliai”. Vaizdai kovos dėl kultūros. Vaduvų kraštas” (1920) by Vaižgantas, “Tomas Nipernadis” (1928) by A. Gailitas, “Kuprelis” (1932) by I. Šeinius, “Altorių šešėly” (1932-1933) by V. Mykolaitis-Putinas, “Pavasario pranašas” (“Pulkim ant kelių”) (1936) by K. Plačenis, “Valentina” (1936) by A. Vaičiulaitis, “Felikso Krulio prisipažinimai” (1954) by Thomas Mann. The subject of the thesis is to discuss erotic nature of the novel genre, to present literary context of the novel and to reveal the spread of eroticism in it. In addtion, to convey different depictions of the feeling of love in the works of Lithuanian authors and foreign authors (A. Gailitas, T. Mann). The methods of the anglysis-interpretation and comparative method were employed in the work. The methodology of psychoanalysis (S. Freud, Carl Gustav Jung) was used. There are three pairs of love objects in the novel (Tilius and Agne, Doveika and Monika, Monika and Tilius). The change of elemental and uncontrollable passions is going on between them. Stripped body is openly displayed and its sexuality is emphasized. The factors of family creation are exposed. The author reveals the role of a woman in man‘s life. M. Katiliškis in his novel “Miškais ateina ruduo” portrays a traditional village in Lithuania, hard-working, struggling for a place in the sun and loving people. He emphasizes their constant struggle for a better life. He is particularly interested in the relationships among the characters who are extremely influenced by elemental outbursts of passion. In the history of Lithuanian literature this novel is unique for the daring erotic spread felt in it. M. Katiliškis unlike other Lithuanian writers, ‘opens’ the shed of the biological structure of a human being (man and woman). The author of the novel perceives the depiction of such factors as elemental outbursts of passion, stripped body, sexuality and eroticism, open and detailed description of sexual act, which are perceived as controversial subjects by other contemporaries, as natural and not shameful subjects, radiating beauty, sexuality and providing great pleasure. All these things are inherent in human physiology. It may seem that M. Katiliškis with this novel tries to promote to look to a human being, his/ her body and its processes otherwise (without taboo, shame and modesty).
