Abstract [eng] The aim of the Master Thesis is to identify the opportunities of information accessibility and public participation in the activities of Tauragė district municipality. Scientific literature on the subject of public information and participation in the activities of local self-government has been analyzed in order to achieve the set aim. Theoretical statements confirming statistical data have been presented. The involvement of citizens into the formation of public policy, the importance of decision making and its influence have been reviewed and legal regulation of public information and involvement into the activities of local self-government has been analyzed. In the exploratory part of the Thesis complex method of research has been applied: questionnaire method – population survey, scientific observation in the website of Tauragė district municipality and standardized (formalized) interview – expert survey. The results of the research show public no-confidence in the activities of Tauragė district municipality. Residents do not feel important members of political process. The municipality is alienated from the residents and the concern about information provision on possible participation of citizens in the activities of local self-government is insufficient. The opportunities of people involvement into the activities of local self-government when forming and making of public decisions are insufficient. However, the representatives of the municipality feel that they take advantage of all opportunities to induce the activity of residents. Collected facts will provide with possibilities to improve the activities of municipal institutions when improving the mechanisms of information provision and citizen involvement.
