The article focuses on unpublished handwritten letters of Antanas Vaičiulaitis to his wife Joana Abramikaitė-Vaičiulaitienė, which cover almost entire period of their life together from 1948 to 1991. The personal correspondence of Vaičiulaitis is an inexhaustible source for bringing the subjectivity of everyday life up-to-date. It also is a poetically aesthetic love story between two people, which in epistolary texts opens on stylistic and thematic levels. These two levels are taken as a the subject of research of the discursive modality as a whole searching for thematic codes, rhetorical devices, pragmatic effects, summed up by the concept of intimacy. The concept, very important in this analysis, allows to talk about the systems of letter’s subject representation and self-reference. Knowing that the epistolary subject’s self-expression in private letters is concerned with historical and cultural conception of intimacy in specific time, the features of Vaičiulaitis’s personal correspondence in the semantic field of self-expression are also discussed. |
