This dissertation seeks to answer the question of what is the role of intellectual capital in fostering social cohesion and how the relationship between the two phenomena can be explored and analyzed. The relationship between social cohesion and intellectual capital theories is examined. The empirical data focus on the discrepancies between objective and subjective factors which determine, influence and constrain the development of intellectual capital in Lithuania. It is argued that the development of human potential is a prerequisite for social cohesion in the country. As countries compete to attract and retain highly-skilled people who increase both the economic and the social value of the state, the relationship between the objective and subjective criteria that determine Lithuania’s loss of human capital and limit its attraction is empirically explored. |
