Abstract [eng] The object of the master’s thesis is the features of cooperation between Lithuanian and French publishing houses. The purpose of the master’s thesis is to explore and evaluate by quality aspect the tendency of cooperation between Lithuanian and French publishing houses. The tasks of the work are: to analyze the situation of books publishing and the tendency of it’s development; to disclose international cooperation benefit, opportunities and perspectives; to explore the Lithuanian and French book markets; to do an expert research and summarize the results. To reach the purpose of the master’s thesis, it was used the following methods (theoretical and empirical): analysis of bibliography, documents and Web sites; systematization and comparative analysis; question form. The creation and development of global EU market stimulated the publishers to search the partners in foreign countries. Books translation is one of the cooperation forms between publishing houses. Results of the research show that mostly cooperation is directly, without intermediaries. Lithuanian publishers generally are not interested in a production of particular French publishing house – they are just looking for a good book in a French book market and only then they cooperate with the publishing house which owns the rights to a book. Compatibility of profile of publishing houses is the most important factor for Lithuanian publishers. French books exclusiveness, attractiveness and Lithuanian reader’s needs, stimulate publishing of these books in Lithuania. The research discover that many Lithuanian publishers intensively cooperate with French publishing houses and publish French books, meanwhile the French publishers are not very interested in Lithuanian literary production. Lithuanian publishers have to find out the better integration strategy to French books market. It is recommended for Lithuanian publishers to use professional foreign publisher’s experience. This theme has not been analyzed yet. It has much space for discussions and problem solving. The master’s thesis can be useful for Lithuanian publishers who seek to cooperate with French publishing houses, for students and for anyone interested in book publishing.
