Abstract [eng] Every choir has a leader. A choral director - conductor is a very important factor for successful activity of a musical group. 189 members of active choirs and their leaders in Šiauliai city and region as well as in Kuršėnai and Radviliškis towns and regions were surveyed in order to prepare the thesis. Therefore the practical significance is associated with a detailed analysis of the choristers’ opinions and the use of results in improving the managerial efficiency of the choir. Analysing the literature of the choral leader's activity it was identified the amount of scientific literature which examines managerial aspects of the conductor's activity with the choir is very limited as well as there is a lack of psychological and methodological analyses of these aspects, so this work is based on primarily empirical results. The object of investigation – amateur choral conductor managerial specificity. The aim of the study – to examine the conductor’s specific managerial activities in working with amateur choirs. In order to achieve the objective the following tasks were put forward: to analyze theoretically the concept of the choir leader, roles, characteristics and the necessary skills, to evaluate the conductor’s managerial aspects, to study the amateur choral feedback from participants about the choir’s work in managerial organizational features, to study the opinion of amateur choir leaders about the managerial skills under the guidance of choral adaptation options. The analysis of the scientific literature states that leader's activity is related to the choir members focusing on cooperation. Some leader's functions are distinguished as management, good organization, capacity planning and controlling. Working with the choir choirmaster should know and practise all management functions, be able to choose efficient organizational methods for the activity. The questionnaire of the members of amateur choirs proved that the main organizational need of choral activity - to implement their professional aspiration and to do what gives satisfaction. The interview of leaders of the choirs showed that the main motivation for attending the choir is opportunity to spend their leisure time and fill their individual needs. The main reason, why the choir is chosen – a free opportunity to spend their leisure time. The success of amateur participation in cultural life of the choir and concert activities is very important in the conductor’s managerial skills and knowledge. It was proved by the empirical survey results.
