Abstract [eng] Summary Gender Equality under EC Law: the Principles of Equal Payment and Equal Treatment and their Implementation in the Republic of Lithuania Analyzing of gender equality under the law of European Community and Lithuania is important both from theoretical and practical point of view. The recent tendency of European Union gender equality principle is renewal of the secondary legislation. On 5 July, 2006 was issued the directive on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation (recast), which renews and codifies Equal pay and Equal treatment directives. The principle of gender equality of the European Community is analyzed in the sphere of equal pay and equal treatment (as much as it is related with the matters of employment) in this work. The principle of equal pay means that each member state is obliged to ensure that the principle of equal pay for male and female workers for equal work or work of equal value would be applied. The equal treatment principle in the sphere of employment is equal treatment for men and women as regards access to employment, including promotion, vocational training, and working conditions, including dismissal. This work analyze the regulation of equal payment and equal treatment principles in the European Community, also the practice of European Court of Justice related with the various aspects of these principles. Besides, the implementation and effect of European Community gender equality law in the law system of the Republic of Lithuania is analyzed. Moreover, it is studied weather the recent regulation of gender equality in Lithuania is sufficient for the effective implementation of the equal payment and equal treatment principles.
