Abstract [eng] The group of children, whose parents are not separated, but live separately because of work migration, constitutes a unique opportunity for research on the topic of parent-child separation. Aim of the study was to investigate the psychosocial functioning of children from migrant families and determine how it is related to individual child‘s and family context‘s factors. Two statements were defended in dissertation: that the psychosocial functioning of children from migrant families was as good as of children from Lithuania‘s representative sample (1) and that internal family representations were more important factors for the psychosocial functioning of children then sociodemographic factors. The dissertation is based on developmental psychopathology approach. 208 children from different family settings participated in the study. Using questionnaires and projective technique, the psychosocial functioning, internal family representations and sociodemografic, parenting and other factors were assessed. The analysis was carried out seeking to determine the most important factors related to the psychosocial functioning of children from migrant families. The role of family representations for the adaptation of children was discussed and the guidelines for further research were delineated.
