Abstract [eng] |
Ideal and actual selves of boys from intact and divorced families comparison In the last few decades the number of divorce having risen up significantly, the consequences of divorce, especially on the development of a child, came to be analised widely. During this research the self-view aspects of boys from complete and divorced families have been analysed: Ideal-self and actual-self, the differences between them; the level of perfectionism and certain factors which can interact with the mentioned variables. We raised the purpose to check whether ideal-self, actual-self and the distinction between them does differ among the boys from complete and divorced groups. The level of perfectionism was also compared as well as the factors which according to the research results present in the literature could interact with the constructs of self-view. The research involved boys from 10 and 11 forms (age between 16 and 18), 40 boys among them living in complete families and 30 living only with their mothers and having experienced their parents’ divorce. The actual-self and the ideal-self have been measured by providing a list of pairs of characteristics (Methodology of adjectives) and asking the schoolchildren to evaluate how much the respective characteristics apply to them. The teenagers have also filled in the Survey of Perfectionism, aimed at determining the level of perfectionism, and the Pupil’s Survey, aimed at receiving more extensive knowledge on the respondents and later to evaluate their link to other variables of the research. The results acquired permit the statement that the boys from complete and divorced families do in a similar manner describe the ideal-self and the actual-self. The distinction between the actual-self and the ideal-self does not differ neither. However, there are tendencies that the boys from divorced families describe themselves as more sociable. Meanwhile, the boys from complete families tend to describe themselves as more lettered and wished to be distinguished for more expressive characteristics that would be displayed more in the study sphere. They would also like to be more brave. We determined that the level of perfectionism of the boys from complete families is higher than that of the boys from divorced families. Certain interactions might be identified between the actual-self, the ideal-self, their distinction, the level of perfectionism and attitude to divorce, way of reacting to criticism, ability to formulate the aims in life of a person who is noted for being most respected. |
