Abstract [eng] This research work presents the analysis of life quality of people residing in rural areas. Theoretical life quality conception has been set as well as characteristic factors resulting life quality have been established and possible life quality improvement tendencies using European Union support have been foreseen (determined). The hypothesis has been set, that the use of European Union financial support could ensure better life quality of Joniškis district rural inhabitants. The survey has been performed using a questionnaire with the aim to the attitude of Joniškis district government leaders and rural inhabitants towards writing projects in order to obtain European Union support as the main means for life quality improvement. Statistic data analysis has also been performed. 20 Joniškis district Municipality Administration and its subdivision leaders, 30 businessmen having developed their business in rural areas (agricultural production processing, activity located in rural areas) and 100 different rural residents participated in the research in the following way: each Joniškis district Neighbourhood has got 10 questionnaires to fill in. Empirical part of this research paper analyses the needs of rural inhabitants, possible access to European Union support and grant system, problems and difficulties to obtain the mentioned support. The main decisions of the empirical research: 1. Rural residents’ life quality is influenced by economic, social, cultural and psychological aspects; 2. European Union support has to be applied in a complex way: to solve social, economic and other problems; 3. European Union support gives a possibility to improve the life quality, but complicated preparation of application forms, lack of project writing experience and financial means make it difficult to obtain project support.
