Abstract [eng] Theoretical analysis of adaptation singularities among disabled men and women has been conducted with this survey. The hypothesis has been brought up that the differences of professional adaptation among disabled men and women are predetermined by the following: 1. Singularities of competitive labour market (employer’s attitude, differences of specialities required in the labour market). 2. Different social roles of public genders predetermined by the traditions. 3. Attitudes towards disability and differences with regard to self-evaluation. Two surveys have been conducted: Analysis of the professional and psychosocial adaptation situations among the participants of disabled men and women project “Rendering of professional rehabilitation services for disabled persons when applying innovative activities”. Similarities and differences of professional adaptation among disabled men and women have been analysed. The most significant conclusions of the survey: Similarities of professional adaptation among disabled men and women: 1. Both, disabled men and disabled women appreciate work very much. 2. They have enough skills to perform work. 3. They are characterised with positive characteristic features that influence successful professional adaptation. Differences of professional adaptation among disabled men and women: 1. Disabled men are less interested to keep work than disabled women. 2. Disabled women encountered difficulties related to psychosocial environment. 3. Work payment partly satisfies the main needs of disabled men. With the help of a questionnaire method, the research has been conducted, the aim of which was to ascertain the categories defining similarities and differences of professional adaptation among disabled men and women, related expression and content as well as impact on the process of professional adaptation. Statistical descriptive data analysis has been performed. Employers from cities and regions of Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Vilnius, Kaunas and Kupiškis having employed disabled persons took part in this survey. Similarities and differences of professional adaptation among disabled men and women in labour market have been discussed in the empirical chapter. The most significant conclusions of the empirical survey: 1. Referring to the survey results it is possible to assert that both, disabled men and disabled women are ready for work in professional field. 2. Referring to the survey results it is possible to assert that the professional work success for both, disabled men and disabled women depends on general sophistication and general skills, on positive self-evaluation and to value related attitudes towards work. 3. Referring to the survey results it is possible to assert that the success on the workplace for both, disabled men and disabled women depends on their family’s support, employers’ moral support, employers’ positive attitude, professional and social assistance on the workplace, psychological assistance, positive attitude by work colleagues as well as the disabled person’s wish to be independent and to earn money. 4. The hypothesis has proven out that that the differences of professional adaptation among disabled men and women are predetermined by singularities of competitive labour market (employer’s attitude, differences of specialities required in the labour market), by different social roles of public genders predetermined by the traditions as well as by attitudes towards disability and differences with regard to self-evaluation. A great number of employers consider disabled women as less persevering than disabled men, also disabled women associate with a weak gender.
