Abstract [eng] |
The Master's thesis analyses a topic that is rarely studied by Lithuanian scientists - the peculiarities of the execution of imprisonment for women and the problems that convict women face when serving their imprisonment in penitentiary institutions and in the first stage of the resocialisation process, which is considered to be the essence of the punishment. The problem of the topic is examined by analysing the specific features of women's rights in international legislation and Lithuanian law and comparing the regulations. It also analyses official statistics on the trend of women in places of imprisonment, the data on convicted women in sentences passed by the Lithuanian courts and finally examines the problems women face during their sentence and in the process of resocialisation. The last problem is analysed through the experience of social workers working in Panevėžys Prison. The main part of this work focuses on the problems faced by women serving a prison sentence during their sentence and in the process of resocialisation, which is considered to be part of the sentence, as a result of a failure to properly assess their needs. An analysis of various sources has shown that the most common problems are inadequate accommodation, hygiene problems, inadequate psychological support, treatment for addictions, physical health care, difficulties in maintaining family relations and social contacts, and unviable employment. Most of these problems also make successful resocialisation difficult: poor employment, lack of a sense of security, psychological problems, and poor addiction treatment. |
