Abstract [eng] |
In the master's thesis, the significance of maternity social insurance within Lithuania's social protection framework is meticulously examined, underlining the critical importance of this insurance sector for individuals entitled to legally established maternity, paternity, and childcare benefits. The evolution of Lithuania's legal regulation in the realm of maternity social insurance is analyzed, tracing from the interwar period and Soviet era up to the restoration of Lithuania's independence, emphasizing how these transformations have influenced the shaping of maternity social insurance policy. Special attention is devoted to the most recent amendments in legal regulation, which were implemented to ensure enhanced protection for beneficiaries of maternity social insurance. The thesis thoroughly investigates issues associated with maternity social insurance, including challenges brought about by economic crises and pandemics, cases of misuse of maternity benefits, and facets of ensuring gender equality. The analysis draws not only on theoretical resources but also on practical examples of legislation and judgments from both Lithuanian and international courts, offering a comprehensive overview of the present situation and the legal measures addressing it. This master's thesis contributes to the scholarly discussion on the evolution of social protection policy in Lithuania, highlighting the crucial role of maternity social insurance and the challenges faced by this system in the modern societal context. |
