The topic of the thesis: The significance of psychosocial risk factors at work, stress, and optimism on law enforcement staff well-being. The author of the thesis: Miglė Rastenytė, Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2024, 55 pages (with appendixes). This master thesis analyses the relationships between 4 constructs: psychosocial risk at work, stress, optimism and well-being, and relationships with demographic and professional characteristics in a sample of law enforcement staff. It also analyses how independent variables – psychosocial risk factors at work, stress, and optimism – predict well-being. Such a study covering all four variables and examining them in a sample of law enforcement staff has not yet been conducted in Lithuania. Objective: to examine the correlations of psychosocial risk factors, stress and optimism with the well-being of law enforcement personnel. Participants: 128 law enforcement personnel were interviewed - 79 police officers (61,72 %), 7 prison officers (5,47 %) and 42 probation officers (32,81 %). Demographic data showed that 39 males (30,47 %) and 89 females (69,53 %) participated in the study. The age of the study participants ranged from 21 to 65 years, with a mean of 41,24 (SD = 9,73) years. This study used non-probability purposive sampling. Instruments: Psychosocial Risk Questionnaire (State Labor Inspectorate of the Republic of Lithuania, 2012), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) (Cohen, Kamark & Mermelstein, 1983), WHO (Five) Well-being Index (WHO-5) (World Health Organization, 1998), Revised Life Orientation Test (LOT-R) (Scheier, Carver & Bridges, 1994), socio-demographic questions. Results: stress negatively predicts, while optimism positively predicts well-being of law enforcement staff. Law enforcement officers' job stress is a mediator of psychosocial risk factors and optimism in predicting their well-being. |
