| Abstract [eng] |
This longitudinal study examined the relationship between proactivity, psychological resilience, self-efficacy and perseverance of cadets of the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (LMA) who joined the academy at different times. The aim of the study is to understand how these psychological traits develop during the basic soldier course and to identify predictors of psychological resilience in cadets. The study involved 165 first-year cadets who joined the LMA in 2021 and 2023. All participants completed a questionnaire containing instruments measuring the psychological characteristics listed above. The questionnaire was administered after the participants had just joined the LMA and after the 9-week basic military training course. Paired t-tests revealed that the cadets' proactivity, psychological resilience and self-efficacy significantly increased after the basic military training. Correlation analysis revealed positive relationships between all variables. Multivariate linear regression revealed that baseline levels of psychological resilience, proactivity and self-efficacy were the main predictors of changes in psychological resilience after the basic military course. Cadets who had military experience before joining the LMA were more psychologically resilient than their counterparts who started their studies with no experience. |
