Ingrida Mereškevičiūtė. "How students learn: the learning experiences of nursing students", Supervisor Assoc. Dr. Stanislav Sabaliauskas,. The learning experience of nursing students is important in the learning context. During the study period, students face various challenges that affect their emotional health and academic motivation. Understanding how students learn and what factors influence their learning process becomes a question not only of improving professional training, but also of the efficiency of the entire health care system. The purpose of this research is to reveal and study the learning experiences of nursing students. Methods and material. The research method chosen for the study is qualitative research - semi-structured interviews. The interview questions are divided into three categories: learning challenges, learning motives and learning benefits. Verbal consent to participate in the study was obtained from each participant. The research followed ethical principles. The study was carried out between February 2024 and March 2024. The sample was drawn using variation sampling and snowball sampling. The obtained data were transcribed, meaningful units were distinguished, and an inductive content analysis was performed. Results. 21 students participated in the research. The study found that the learning experiences of nursing students are diverse. The study revealed the challenges experienced by students during theory learning and clinical practice. During challenging learning, students experience emotions and apply self-help methods. Comparing students' learning motivation experiences showed differences between bachelor's and master's students. Although each learning experience is unique, the research revealed that the most effective form of learning for students is practice. Conclusions. Nursing students experienced both positive and negative learning experiences. Making sense of experiences in the learning process helps students learn from reflective experiences. Positive learning experiences are related to effective learning methods, the desire to help people, and the acquisition of a professional specialty. Negative experiences were related to poor time management skills, lack of communication between supervisors and negative attitudes of nursing staff towards students. Recommendations. Organize discussions between nurses, students, hospital managers in order to find out the problems that arise during practice. To organize training for nurses on the profession of extended practice nursing, to hold training on the issue of improving mentoring. Keywords: nursing students, experiential learning, experience. |
