Abstract [eng] |
Theft is one of the oldest criminal acts in the world. There are different types of theft - petty theft, theft of small or high value, secret or open, etc. One or the other type is more discussed and analyzed, but there are types that only a certain part of the public knows about. Shoplifting is a type of theft that retailers are mostly aware of, and members of the public don't encounter. The problem of theft from shops has been studied a lot in foreign countries, but this topic is not analyzed in Lithuania. In Lithuania, the legal regulation does not have a separate law for shoplifting, only the general concept of theft is described in the Administrative and Criminal Codes. As for shoplifting, this is another smaller type that needs to be analyzed and ways of reducing the problem should be sought, since it is an existing phenomenon. Second-hand are clothes or accessories previously worn by other people and their value can vary greatly - from a few to several tens of euros. The main goal of this work is to understand the phenomenon of thefts from second-hand clothes stores with the help of ethnographic research, to identify the assumptions that determine it and to present suggestions for reducing the number of thefts. Thesis: the prevention measures applied in the "Humana" store are not sufficient to control thefts from the store. Several theories of criminology were used to explain the phenomenon of shoplifting - routine activities, strain, self-control, rational choice, social learning and labeling. Ethnographic research was used to conduct the research, which allowed us to join the community in the Humana second-hand clothing store and look for ways to reduce the problem. The results of the ethnographic study revealed that petty theft is a common phenomenon in Humana second-hand clothing stores. Identification of the distinctive features of the offenders made it possible to define the possible type of potential thief. Also, the strategies chosen by the offenders and their reactions broadened the understanding of human thinking. The reactions of the store staff and the preventive actions taken allowed us to understand how the employee's attitude towards his work, salary and taking care of his health determine his decisions. The research made it possible to identify the main reasons for thefts from Humana second-hand clothing stores and to propose preventive measures in order to reduce theft cases. |
