Kiriliuk, L. (2024). The role of education and sports institutions in the development of athletes’ motivation for sport. Master’s thesis. Vilnius University, Šiauliai Academy, Faculty of Education, Šiauliai. SUMMARY The Master’s thesis analyses the importance of athletes’ motivation, how it can be contributed to its development in one way or another, and what kind of incentives help to stay motivated. Motivation to exercise is perhaps one of the biggest problems nowadays. The key to motivating an athlete is to find out what he or she needs, to set goals and to achieve them. Research on athletes’ motivation aims to reveal the factors that influence athletes’ performance motivation (Gibson, Fosters, 2002; Grajauskas, Razmaitė, 2017; Roychowdhury, 2018). The research used V. Žydžiūnaitė’s (2009) interview method, which was categorised and compartmentalised into the identification and interpretation of the content elements of the categories/sub-categories. The thesis raises the following problematic questions: what are the activities carried out by educational and sports institutions to develop athletes’ motivation? What incentives are used and what motivate athletes the most? Object of the study: peculiarities of educational and sports institutions’ activities in the development of athletes’ motivation.
