Abstract [eng] |
The title of this paper is “What Does This Place Stand For?”: Analysing Spatiality of Dubai as a Global City. The Master's thesis focuses on the implementation strategies of Dubai's future visions (2030, 2040, 2050), which attempt to project the city's future. The aim of the thesis is to investigate the conditions that have led to such a rapid globalization of Dubai and allowed the emergence of a distinctive urban spatiality. The subject of the study is Dubai as a global city, where socio-spatial relations are created, and strategic choices are made to achieve the visions. Using an interdisciplinary cross-cutting methodology that includes global city studies and a strategic connectivity approach, as well as an analysis of Dubai's socio-spatiality in the TPSN and a primary source analysis of the Dubai 2040 City Plan conducted under the rubrics of urban development and ecology, it was concluded that Dubai, status as a global city has become a motivation for the city government to base the urban development strategy of the city on the promotion and implementation of the idea of sustainability, and to make the related politico-strategic choices to shape Dubai as a global and sustainable hub across the MENA and Indian Ocean region. The Master's thesis can be useful for institutions making different types of policy choices to learn about the region and the enormous potential of the city to become a space for cooperation in various fields. |
