Changing society of Lithuania forms new objectives for education. As the objectives of education change, it is obligatory to renew knowledge and provide qualitative services of education. Today it is not enough for an educator only to understand how to render knowledge to pupils. A teacher has to become the creator of learning possibilities, consultant, partner and assistant, the witness of the truths of life. Thus a teacher has to be provided with the greater freedom and responsibility to choose the contents and methods of teaching, to create the possibilities to participate actually in the management of school. So that teachers could properly perform their newest roles, their preparation, vocational training and performance assessment have to be changed. Seeking the best results possible, it is important not only to be assessed but also to be able to make self-assessment of the quality of activities. Self-assessment is internal assessment during which information is collected and self-analysis is performed in accordance with the set criteria. Thus the seeking of criteria is inseparable from the assessment and self-assessment. The object of the research: the competences’ quality evalution of primary teachers and possibilities for professional improvement. The hypothesis of the research: it is possible that self-assessment of the quality of competencies of primary school teachers has an impact on professional improvement / self-improvement. The aim of the research is to analyze the possibilities to assess the quality of competences of primary school teachers and the possibilities for professional improvement / self-improvement. The objectives of the research are as follows: 1. basing on the analysis of scientific literature to reveal the role of an educator in the contemporary society; 2. to describe the conception of the quality of education; 3. to emphasize the definitions and importance of the competencies of educators; 4. to analyze the attitude of educators and parents towards the self-assessment of the quality of competencies and the possibilities for professional improvement / self-improvement. To analyze teachers' and parents' views on the quality of teacher competency self-assessment, and opportunities for professional development / learning Exposing teachers to approach the quality of self-assessment skills and opportunities for professional development / learning. Randomly selected respondents have participated in the research: 100 teachers of primary school and 100 parents of the pupils of primary school. The return of questionnaires: 91.5 %. |
