Preparation for the carrier is a difficult process during which, the young person is collecting information about himself, professions that interests him and the world of employment. That is why it is crucial to choose the right profession, which decides person’s life for a long period in the future. Even though, in these days it is quite usual to change your profession because of various reasons. In the Guidelines of Education (2003, p. 15) it is written that „in the society of knowledge, the role of teacher is changing: teacher – the keeper and the convey of the knowledge is being replaced by the teacher – learning organizer, creator of learning possibilities, learning helper, advisor, partner, intermediary between the student and the various sources of contemporary knowledge”. Present is requiring from teaching profession new social, educational and business requirements. The teacher needs far broader and more general business-like specialized education. The present-day school teacher must become a self-learning processes moderator cooperating counterpart, an active member of the school community. Today's teacher must be aware of the learners' developmental characteristics of their educational experience not only in Lithuania, but also in Europe and in the world, able to make decisions in a variety of teacher roles and be able to adapt to work and other activities in a multicultural environment. Professional status of an educator is usually determined by the point of view to quality of their life. To the profession and the quality of life happy person creates a positive environment and vice versa. Therefore, teachers 'approach to teacher education, the teachers' role is and will be one of the most important aspects of the evaluation in education policy. So the problem studied is determined by the teacher's role in today's society, the importance of teacher satisfaction with their chosen profession and educational activities. Object of the research. Motives for choosing teaching as a profession and business aspects of providing satisfaction / dissatisfaction, with the chosen profession. The work contains of two hypothetical assumptions: 1) it is likely that a teacher is aware of their chosen professions are able to perform a variety of roles in today's society, feel the satisfaction of their chosen profession; 2) correctly chosen profession and job satisfaction does not depend on the length of service of teaching. Aim: Identify reasons for the choice of the teaching profession and the business aspects of satisfying chosen profession. Tasks: 1. To analyze the scientific literature on the reasons for the choice of teaching as a profession and business aspects satisfying the chosen profession. 2. To find out what factors and considerations influenced the choice of the teaching profession. 3. Determine what aspects of teacher performance give them satisfaction in their chosen profession. 4. Identify how the satisfaction of the chosen profession of teaching varies depending on length of service. Research Methods: 1. Analyzing the scientific literature. 2. Questionnaire survey. 3. Quantitative (descriptive statistics) and qualitative (content analysis of respondents' answers) data analysis. The survey sample. The study involved 178 respondents (161 women and 17 men) working in 8 schools in Šiauliai city (junior gymnasiums and high schools). The first hypothetical assumption is confirmed: those teachers who have strong reasons for the choice of profession, are more satisfied with their profession. The second hypothetical assumption was confirmed partialy: elder teachers, thus with more teaching experience, often expressed dissatisfaction with their profession for objective (age, fatigue) and subjective (low salaries, changed public perceptions of the teacher, the teacher dead goodwill) reasons. |
