Abstract [eng] In contemporary world there is paid much attention to choose profession and demand for it. Whereas not all the people are able to find relevant information and there is constant lack of information about desired profession, the majority of students have no final decision while applying to enter colleges and often their choice is hasty and unreasoned. Due to this reason while in process of studies, a certain percent of students are tend to change their profession. Here emerges demand to find out motives which are inducing such behaviour and the change of motives. The aim of the research is to reveal the theoretic motives of choosing profession and to make empirical research on motives of choosing profession and probable changes of motives among college students. The object of the research is to find out motives to choose profession and their changes among 1st-4th year college students. The methodology of the research is based on A. Maslow’s (1971) theory of human motivation. This theory states that personality is constantly growing and developing while seeking self-realization. The need to seek carrier lies in every individual personality. While learning at school there emerges wish to develop and perceive themselves, to reveal conceivable potencies, to realize themselves not only in personal, but also in professional life. Psychologist A. Maslow (1971), who developed a theory of hierarchy of human motivation, defines the main idea that human is oriented in actualization and self-realization. Self-actualization is implemented during satisfaction of needs. The sample and location of the research. While seeking to reveal the motives and their changes of choosing profession among college students there was executed survey in Marijampole college, Education studies and social work faculty and Business and technology faculty. There were surveyed 309 students. For research analysis were used 300 questionnaires. The structure of the paper. The master thesis consist of: summary in Lithuanian and English, introduction, 2 sections (theoretical and empirical), conclusions, recommendations, references (79 sources) and 1 annex. Research data is illustrated by 18 tables and 8 pictures. Total scope of the work is 78 pages. In this paper are analysed theoretical aspects, systems of profession classification, factors that makes impact on choosing profession, revealed motives of choosing profession, presented teenagers’ age characteristics and the main mistakes while choosing profession. Moreover there was executed research with aim to find out the students’ perception of profession, the motives and factors of choosing profession and how the perception is changing in time.
