Relevance of the research. Career is an essential factor in every person’s life. It influences every individual’s financial well-being, his or her social status as well as prestige. Successful career creates better conditions for accommodating one’s financial as well as cultural needs. Development of Lithuanian economy does have some influence upon the opportunities young people have to chose from, since macroeconomic conditions affect individual’s income and possibilities of employment. New vacancies being created in low-paid service sector or traditional brands of industry, where prevailing jobs do not require having high qualifications, is one more obstacle for young people to express their capabilities. Main reasons why young people fail to be employed in rural areas are related with lack of education, temporary disease or ailment as well as lack of professional skills. Other reasons can be named as lack of activity while searching for the job, not knowing what kind of job one could perform, lack of experience, not developed public transport network, etc. Research subject - opportunities of professional career planning for young people, who have University education and reside in rural areas. Research purpose – to analyze young peoples’, who have University education and reside in rural areas, professional career opportunities. Hypothesis of the research – it is probably that young people, who have University education and reside in rural areas have less employment and career opportunities. In order to reach the foreseen goal, defined propositions have been analyzed in regard of career definition and its theoretical aspects; opportunities of career planning while living in rural areas have been analyzed as well as empirical survey of young people residing in rural areas and having University education has been made.Methods of research: analysis of scientific literature and documents, questionnaire, analysis of statistical data.The survey was conducted in September – October months, 2013 in Šilute district according to the chosen method of a questionnaire. 279 individuals were questioned and assumption was formulated based on chosen criteria, non-probabilistic selection method of the analyzed group. According to analyzed literature an instrument was prepared – the questionnaire, which data was systemized using computer program package SPSS 20.2 and Microsoft Office Excel 2003 program. The survey revealed that majority of respondents evaluate their career pursing opportunities while living in rural arkas critically or do not have any opportunities to pursue their careers. Conducted research proved the hypothesis. |
