Abstract [eng] Alcohol addicted husband affects his wife strongly. Though Al-Anon self-help groups in Lithuania are active already almost twenty years, alcohol addicts‘ wives who attend these groups has not been investigated. Problem of this research is defined by question: does psychological condition of alcohol addicts‘ wives is associated with the fact of Al-Anon groups attendance, duration of this attendance and current her alcohol addicted husband‘ condition in regard to alcohol use. The main aim of this research is to investigate psychological condition of these women and to assess its relation with the fact of Al-Anon groups attendance, duration of that attendance and current her alcohol addicted husband‘ condition in regard to alcohol use. Psychological condition was measured with Perceived Wellness Survey, Family Adaptation and Cohesion Evaluation Scales (FACES IV), and Spann-Fischer Codependency Scale. Other social – psychological data about wives of alvohol addicts was gathered and revealed significant remarks. 136 wives of alcohol addicts and 30 women, whose husbands have no problems with alcohol usage, participated in this research. It was found that perceived wellness, perceived wellness of wives of alcohol addicts is statistically signnificant lower than women, whose husbands have no problems with alcohol usage. Codependency and other constructs of psychological condition of wives of alcohol addicts is related by statistically significant negative connection. Perceived wellness and family cohesion, flexibility, communication, satisfaction is related by statistically significant positive connection. It was found that wives of alcohol addicts experience physical and psychological violence from treir husbands more frequently than women, whose husbands have no problems with alcohol usage. Duration of alcohol addicted husband‘ soberty and family satisfaction of their wives is related by statistically significant positive connection. Fact of Al-Anon attendance is associated with psychological condition of wives of alcohol addicts by statistically significant negative connection, and duration of that attendance – by statistically significant positive connection. The results in general are consistent with data on alcohol addicts‘ wives‘ psychological condition and their sociodemographic life aspects establish by other investigators. The results of this pioneering research complemented scientific data on this peculiar group of subjects, and made recommendations may serve as references for futher researches.
