Abstract [eng] The object of the study is feasibility of renewable energy sources usage in Lithuania. The main goals is to analyze market failures and barriers, which obstruct usage of renewable energy resources, to exclude renewable energy incentives and regulatory mechanisms, introduce renewable energy resources in the global trends, analyze the European Union and the Lithuanian incentives for renewable energy resources for development, explore investment in renewable energy resources and installed power in Lithuania, according to expert survey, estimates the use of renewable energy resources in Lithuania. The research methods include the analysis of literature material, the analysis of the information obtained from the Internet, work study was conducted using a qualitative method – a survey of experts The paper consists of three parts. The first part presents analysis of market failures and barriers, which obstruct usage of renewable energy resources, excludes renewable energy incentives and regulatory mechanisms. The second part of the paper analysis the European Union and the Lithuanian incentives for renewable energy resources for development. The third part of the paper presents the data collected from experts, who were asked to answer questionnaire. After the expert survey, processing and analysis of findings and evaluation results, it can be said about the study hypothesis confirmation: institutional barriers are a factor which inhibits the use of RES in Lithuania; The most effective tool in promoting RES in Lithuania is trade in emission allowances.
