Abstract [eng] During the recent decades, there were a lot of talks about integration of people with disabilities including people with speech impediments. In this work, using theoretical knowledge and empirical research, analysis of society’s viewpoint on people with speech impediments was done. Object of the research – society’s viewpoint on people with speech impediments. A hypothesis is made that society thinks sympathetically about people with speech impediments. Aim of the research is to find out the society’s viewpoint on people with speech impediments. Respondents for the survey were chosen randomly. During the research, questionnaires were handed out in the city of Rokiškis and in its district, also in the city of Panevėžys and Kaunas. Respondents were chosen from the age of 16. There were 500 questionnaires handed out and 412 were given back filled out. In this Master’s work, in order to find out the society’s viewpoint on people with speech impediments, these methods were used: theoretical (analysis of academic literature) and empirical (questionnaire). In the first part, the problems of integrating disabled people into society, attitude’s influence on disabled people establishing themselves in the society, the person’s with speech impediments viewpoint on his own disability and disability and society’s attitude’s influence on person’s self-esteem were analysed. The analysis showed that members of society usually don’t have negative attitude towards people with speech impediments. Firstly, the person with a disability has to learn how to look at his problem positively. Questionnaire showed that people, talking to people with speech impediments, feel uncomfortable only the first time when they hear them. Language barriers disappear after communicating for a longer time. Research analysis allows to state, that speech impediments inevitably have influence on a person’s life. Subject to the severity of the impediment, they negatively affect both a child’s and an adult’s lives. The majority of respondents state that the significance of language in childhood is enormous and that impediments, that are not dealt with, can cause many problems to a grown person. The research showed that children with speech impediments are treated more sympathetically then adults with the same impediments. The researched shows a more sympathetic viewpoint on people with speech impediments that examples analysed in the academic literature. The hypothesis that society thinks sympathetically about people with speech impediments is partially correct.
