Analysis of Alteration of services for elderly deaf people provided by Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center ABSTRACT The purpose of this Master‘s Thesis is to overview the theoretical perception of hearing disorder, to discuss certain features of the researched age group of people and to present rehabilitation system of deaf people in Lithuania. The main target of research is to analyze the alteration of services, which are provided for elderly deaf people in Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center, during the past three years. To achieve main target, following tasks where raised: to determine demographic characteristics of elderly people (55 - 76 years), who are members of Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center; to identify social needs of the members of Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center; to make a comprehensive list of services, which are provided in Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center; to identify the role of specialists, who are working in Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center, in the process of deaf people integration to society; to research the level of social activity of the members of Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center; to measure the alteration of demographic characteristics, social needs and social activity during the past three years; determine the alteration of services provided for the community of Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center and the alteration of specialists‘ role in the aforementioned aspects. The longitudinal – tendency method of research was chosen for determining the alteration of service provided and the social need of elderly people. The instrument to gather data was questionnaire. The total number of respondents, who participated in research, was: in 2006 – 42 participants, in 2009 – 48 participants. Hypothesis of research did not prove right. Though the variety of specialists and services, provided in Vilnius Deaf Rehabilitation Center, changed during past three years, these changes do not satisfies all the needs of elderly deaf people. |
