Abstract [eng] Eigminaitė M. Non-governmental Organizations in the Development of Intercultural Education in Lithuania / Master's final work. Head Assoc. No. Duoblienė. - Vilnius University, Faculty of Philosophy, 2009. - 96 p. The subject of this master thesis is relevant because we live in an age of globalization when human migration and interrelations are becoming more active and therefore raises the necessity to educate the society and to teach it to live friendly in multicultural communities. The object of this work is the role of non – governmental organizations in developing intercultural education in Lithuania whilst influencing the advancement of the society and ensuring the alterations in the content of education system. The main aim is to analyze the influence of non – governmental organizations on intercultural education in implementation of non formal intercultural education. In order to achieve the aim set several tasks have been raised: to analyze the conception of intercultural education; to perform the analysis of present situation in this field; to perform the analysis of non – governmental organizations' projects; to conduct a survey of non – governmental organizations' representatives on the field of their interests and topics developed in relation with intercultural education and their scale. A hypothesis has been raised that in the development of intercultural education in Lithuanian formal education systems non – governmental organizations make the most important influence. These methods of research have been applied in this work: studies of the scientific literature and it's systematic analysis, analysis of primary data sources and systemization of vast information on relevant questions; survey method, analysis and interpretation of the gathered data. Main conclusions of the work: often intercultural education is perceived as respect and tolerance for variety of religions, as exchange between cultures and as a dialogue between local inhabitants and immigrants; two disadvantages of the non – governmental organizations‘ developed intercultural education are passive governmental sector and conservative societies’ attitude towards interculturalism. Main suggestions: to precisely define the concept of intercultural education, transparently and clearly legally regulate this area, to integrate intercultural education into the system of formal education.
