Education for sustainable development (ESD) becomes a lifelong learning process which continues all the lifetime and incorporates formal, non-formal education and informal learning. Education oriented to sustainable development is grounded by integral attitute to social and economic development as well as environment. A huge responsibility goes to school and teachers who have to prepare the pupils for life increasing their awareness, knowledge, skills and values needed to create sustainable future and well-being for the future generations. The principal purpose of this paper is to reveal the preconditions of Sustainable Development strategy implementation in Lithuanian school. The main research tasks are: • To carry out the analysis of the concept of Sustainable development on the basis of ES and Lithuanian strategical documents study. • To determine teachers’ point of view on SD, their readiness and competence to apply SD ideas into the curriculum. Later the points of view of teachers’ and the experts of education were compared. The following methods were applied in this paper: • Literature and document analysis; • Empirical survey; • Theoretical modelling. The paper is based on the scientific literature analysis, main strategical documents of ES and Lithuania analysis as well as documents of Lithuania’s Education analysis. On this basis a questionnaire of research is being modelled. The empirical research is carried out to determine the teachers’ point of view on SD and their readiness and competence to apply SD ideas into the curriculum. Later, the attitudes of teachers’ and the experts’ of education were compared. |
