Abstract [eng] The theme relevance and necessity of its decision. Nowadays it is not necessary to prove that small and medium sized business (SMB) is an integral part of the economy. It is impossible to imagine a modern economy without successfully developed small business sector. Namely, the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) market provides the necessary flexibility to provide a wide range of products and services, decide on employment issues, emerging competitive environment. The Development and Promotion of the SME is tje stability and improvement of the country‘s economic. The object of search work – Kaunas Region SME companies. The goals of the work: • Review the theory and represent the concept and the development of the SME in Lithuania, the European Union and foreign countries. • Describe the specific nature of the SME business, the importance in the modern economy and the most common difficulties to the development of SME. • Based on statistical studies, represent the analysis of the SMB situation in Lithuania, European Union and the Kaunas Region • Name the current problems of small enterprises and development perspectives of SME in Kaunas Region. The main results of the research.The research showed that most, according to businessmen, difficulties to the development of SME in Kaunas Region are high taxes, rising fuel prices, the current unfavorable economic situation in the country (the crisis), and fail to pay or late developers. The study found, that most respondents believe that "the company will continue without change, this is an optimistic forecast. Thus, despite the unfavorable economic situation in the country, reduced profitability, and others problems, many businesses remained, and plans to continue its activities. The structure and largeness of work. The search work consists of introduction, three parts and conclusions. The main working materials described on 79 pages, including 11 charts and 35 pictures.
