Research questions: to analyse the duration of adaptation process of elementary pupils, main problems and consequences; to analyse the family‘s: parents‘ education, structure, child‘s preparation to school; to compare the differences among girls‘ and boys‘ adaption at school. Founding upon Glass, Swetting, I. Leliūginiene and others, the hypothesis that the family consist, parents‘ education, paying little attention to a child are the key factors determining their adaptation to school life. Due to these factors, children‘s adaptation becomes hard and has variuos outcomes on the child. In order to verify the aforementioned hypothesis the quantitative analysis method is being applied. The method applied is questionary poll, the analysys has been conducted in Vilnius city, in Rytas secondary and Spindulys elementary schools among parents of pupils attending first classes. The selection of respondents was random. There were 100 respondents questioned. The conclusions of the research: the results have shown that more problems aroused among the children from partial families (having single parent). Most of the children from those families had a longer adaptation process than those having both parents. Girls had shorter period of adaptation than boys. The results revealed that children had great outcomes due to these problems: they were lazy, faraway and feuding. These symptoms were found in most of the children having a single parent. Respondents were trying to solve their problems – parents in whole families tried to analyse the problems with their children, however, single parents also talked to their children‘s teacher. A small number of parents consulted a social pedagogue. Besides, more problems have been indicated in families, were parents had lower level of education.
