Abstract [eng] Transport is of fundamental importance to human society, providing mobility and facilitating economy growth and trade. Access to people, goods and services has been, and remains, vital to economic development. However, some have questioned whether transportation’s share of GDP necessarily translates into improved societal welfare, especially given the many uncovered externalities such as air and noise pollution, accidents, land-take, and loss of productivity through congestion. For the reasons indicated above, a sustainable transport system is required for achieving major goals of sustainable development. The purpose of sustainable transport policy is to create the transport systems that would correspond to economic, social and environmental control needs. The main purpose of this paper is to model the methods of sustainable transport development evaluation and adapt them for Lithiania transport sector in order to evaluate the sustainability.
