The idea that the body needs motion is not new as the biological human nature requires a certain amount of physical activity. Unfortunately, with modern information technology and higher economic and social level accelerating pace of life, enhancing stress, and increasing mental workload, physical activity decreases consequently posing a threat to human health (Potielūnienė, Sližauskienė, Bendoraitienė, 2007). Physical activity strengthens overall systems and functions of the body. The body needs physical activity as well as food and air. While everyone understands the truth, leisure sport is in decline. Scientists scrutinize motivation in the great sports representatives meanwhile there is very few research into motivation for leisure time physical activity. The survey identifed the factors that more or less determine leisure time physical activity among women and men. Aim: to examine and compare the expression of physical activity motivation in terms of gender and place of residence. Subject: motivation for leisure time physical activity across different genders and places of residence. Methods: collection, storage, analysis, organization, interpretation, and generalization of source literature. Mathematical analysis and generalization of questionnaire results. Sample and Structure. The survey was conducted in urban sports clubs and rural communities actively involved in physical activity. The survey started in December 2013 and ended in January 2014. The sample consisted of 265 respondents: 148 women and 117 men. In terms of different genders and places of residence, results obtained from the survey on motivation for physical activity revealed that the most important drivers for leisure sports included Recreation and Strength / Endurance among urban and rural female, Strength / Endurance and Recreation among urban male, Recreation, Strength / Endurance and Joy among rural male; the least important drivers were Embarrassment and Health Problems among urban female, Embarrassment and Social Recognition among rural female, Health Problems and Affiliation among urban male, Health Problems and Social Recognition among rural male. |
