Abstract [eng] Some people are up and coming in their career, others are not. Some companies are very successful in business, others are not. Image is the factor that helps to be distinguished in today‘s rather busy market. It is note worthy that personal image should match the image of organization itself. Having proper image an emploee much sooner gets a desired job, earns more money and goes up in the world. Companies are eager to employ such people, as they help to achieve success, have a great influence on the results and achievements of the company. In Lithuania the subject of the effect of image on the success of career and business is quite new and it hasn‘t been widely elucidated as yet, though it is a very significant factor in making business and career. Thus, it is important to take into consideration the opinion and point of view of the heads of enterprises concerning image in relations to career and business. The objective of the paper is image as a factor effecting the success of business and career. The aim of the paper is to elucidate what impact the image has on the success of career and business. The thesis analyses, systematiges and generaliges the works of the authors dealig with the effect of image on the success of career; it also analyses and generaliges the results of empyric experiments carried out in various countries in reference to the effect of appearance and image on the success of career and business. On the basis of the analysis of the theories and empyrical studies in this field a conceptual model of evaluation of the effect of image on the success of career has been created. Having applied the created model a questionnaire investigation of the heads of enterprises was carried out in order to establish the main components of the control of professional image and impression; as well as to investigate how different components effect the opinion of the employers about the emploee; recomendations how to form an image in order to successfully achieve goals in business and carrer and how to make a good impression on the environment have been presented. The paper consists of 67 pages, 6 tables and 36 pictures.
