The master‘s thesis analyzes the involvement of library employees in the implementation of the goals of sustainable development. The master‘s thesis consists of three parts: the first part of the thesis presents a theoretical analysis of the involvement of library employes in realization of sustainable development goals, which reviews the concept of employee involvemt, types, goals, methodologies, and also reviews the concepts of sustainable devepment meaning, its evolution, significance, preconditions for its emergence, and implementation in Lithuania; the second part of thesis describes the methodology of the study; the third part presents the study of the involvement of library employees in the implementation of the sustainable development goals in Lithuanian libraries and the discussion of the results. During the evaluation of the results of the survey, it was found that by promoting the involvement of employees in the implementation of the principles of sustainable development in Lithuanian libraries: the competence of employees and a responsible attitude to environmental protection are developed; library staff participate in international conferences, during which they take over the good practice of sustainability from libraries of other countries of the world; employee educational projects are initiated, during which employees are provided with knowledge on how to create a sustainable and ergonomic library environment that attracts readers. During the evaluation of the research results, it was determined what advantages the implementation of sustainable development goals provided in their Lithuanian libraries, it was found that it encouraged: acquiring more knowledge about sustainability; encouraged to engage in sustainable development educational and project activities; helped to adhere to the principles of sustainability in the implementation of library activities; encourage other library staff and readers to adhere to sustainability goals. During the survey, shortcomings in the implementation of sustainable development goals were identified in Lithuanian libraries: too little involvement of library employees in the implementation of sustainable development goals; too little informing of library readers about the possibility of participating in the implementation of sustainable development goals; the support of the library environment for the harmonious implementation of goals is manifested. |
