The master's thesis analyzes the improvement of municipal waste management system management in order to achieve long-term sustainability. Waste management is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that requires a comprehensive approach to ensure its effective disposal and reduction. The increasing amount of waste caused by human activity has caused great concern worldwide about environmental, economic and social problems. Waste management is becoming increasingly oriented towards long-term sustainability goals, therefore the role of local governments is becoming important. A holistic approach to waste management is of utmost importance, which includes economic, technological and social factors. In this way, the management of the waste management system becomes oriented towards long-term sustainability goals. The main problematic questions raised in the work are: 1) how can the management of the waste management system be carried out at the municipal level in the context of long-term sustainability? 2) what is the practice of waste management system management in foreign and Lithuanian municipalities? 3) in what ways can the management of the municipal waste management system be improved in order to achieve long-term sustainability? The aim of the study is to reveal the situation of the municipal waste management system management and the possibilities for improvement, in order to achieve long-term sustainability. The object of the study is the improvement of the municipal waste management system management in order to achieve long-term sustainability. The work has three research objectives: after analyzing the theoretical definition of waste management system management, to identify the essential elements that are necessary to ensure longterm sustainability; after analyzing the specifics of municipal waste management system management in foreign countries and in Lithuania, to identify good practices in order to achieve long-term sustainability; after analyzing the situation of the Akmenė district, to determine the possibilities for improving the management of the municipal waste management system in order to achieve long-term sustainability. The work used the analysis of scientific literature, document content analysis, PESTEL and partially structured interview methods. The results of the study revealed that a comprehensive legal framework has been formed for the management of the waste management system, however, in order to ensure more effective implementation of the management of these systems, it is necessary to increase investments and promote the involvement of residents. The results of the PESTEL analysis show that the management of the waste management system of the Akmenė district municipality may be conditioned by various factors that need to be studied in depth in order to better adapt to the constantly changing environment. The results of the partially structured interview are particularly related to the insights of the theoretical analysis. |
