Abstract [eng] Baltuonienė, A. (2024). The influence of leaders’ leadership on the development of social responsibility in preschool educational institutions. Master’s Thesis. Vilnius University, Šiauliai Academy, Šiauliai. This master’s thesis analyzes the impact of leadership on the development of social responsibility in preschool education institutions. The aim of the study is to explore how leadership styles and practices contribute to the integration of socially responsible activities into the operations of educational institutions and to identify the factors influencing their success or challenges. The topic is relevant as the implementation of social responsibility principles has become an integral part of a sustainable education system. The study emphasizes the importance of leadership in social responsibility initiatives, highlighting the role of leaders not only in improving the quality of education but also in contributing to societal well-being. The theoretical part of the thesis examines the concept of leadership and its transformation within organizational contexts. The main leadership styles, such as transformational, democratic, autocratic, and situational leadership, are analyzed with a focus on their impact on employee motivation and community engagement. Particular emphasis is placed on transformational and democratic leadership traits, which, according to scientific research, are the most effective in promoting social responsibility initiatives. Social responsibility is addressed as a comprehensive process encompassing three main dimensions: social, economic, and environmental. The interactions among these dimensions and their influence on the organization’s impact on society are also discussed. The empirical part of the thesis employs a qualitative multiple case study method. Data were collected through structured written interviews with nine preschool education institution leaders, who were selected based on clear criteria: at least 10 years of professional experience, managing institutions with at least 10 groups, and representing various regions of Lithuania. The structured written interview method ensured respondents’ convenience and provided comprehensive and thoughtful responses. The interview questions were divided into four main themes: leadership practices, perceptions of social responsibility, the impact of leaders on the development of social responsibility, and potential challenges and solutions. The research results revealed several key aspects. Transformational and democratic leadership styles significantly contribute to the success of social responsibility initiatives. Leaders who focus on team building, employee empowerment, and community engagement achieve meaningful outcomes in creating a socially responsible organizational culture. Furthermore, leaders' personal values, such as empathy, responsibility, and environmental care, are crucial factors influencing the effectiveness of social responsibility efforts. Additionally, socially responsible initiatives are often dependent on external factors, such as institutional support, financial resources, and societal attitudes. The thesis concludes with findings and practical recommendations for preschool education institution leaders and education policymakers. It is recommended to place greater emphasis on leadership training to enhance leaders’ abilities to initiate and sustain socially responsible activities. The adoption of long-term strategies, including clear social responsibility goals, consistent collaboration with the community, and open communication with employees, is also encouraged. The thesis highlights that the development of social responsibility should be an integral part of the education system, helping to shape a responsible and sustainable society.
