Abstract [eng] A massive open online course (MOOC) is a free online learning course that is designed for the participation of unlimited numbers of geographically dispersed students via the web. This Master Thesis presents a comprehensive overview of the MOOC‘s platforms, with a focus on math instruction using MOOCs and situation in Lithuania and foreign institutions. The work analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of creating math MOOCs and presents new criteria comparative analysis to MOOC platform with an aim to select one for usage in Lithuania. As a result of comparative analysis, the edX platform has been chosen for further analysis and experiment, because it is free and open source, easy to use, popular, and has many other advantages, analyzed in the thesis. An experimental introductive course in edX platform for math teachers has been developed. We hope that this course will help teachers to understand MOOC course creation processes better, gain knowledge, studying experience, work and perform in math subject teaching more efficiently and systematically.
