Abstract [eng] Norm of Nuclear Weapons Non-use and Deterrence: Interaction of the Conceptions in Case of USA The problem that is analyzed in this master thesis is formed according the paradox. Although, US is thought to be the county that maintains norm of non-use, in the practice US forms the strategy according nuclear deterrence. The object of this master thesis is nuclear weapons posture of US during the period of 2009-2015. The main aim of this thesis is to explore posture of US nuclear weapons use based on the constructivist nuclear weapon non-use rates and realistic deterrence theories. In order to implement the main aim of the thesis these objectives are being met: - To evaluate theoretical (in) compatibility of norm of nuclear weapon non-use and deterrence approaches; - To analyze the process of deterrence meaning construction in US officials discourse; - To explore the dominant expressions, features and forms of non- use norm in US; - To identify form of interaction between norm of non- use and deterrence in US. The case of US is analyzed in terms of qualitative content analysis. After implementing the objectives of this study the following conclusions were derived: - Despite the principal differences the theoretical combinations of norm of non- use and nuclear deterrence is still possible because of the same aim. - The analysis has showed that the meaning of nuclear deterrence was reconsidered in case of US. - The norm of nuclear weapon non - use acquire the form of tradition of non- use in the process of dynamics. Because of uncertainties of tradition it express in the content of disarmament. - The efforts to combine disarmament/ tradition of non – use and effective nuclear deterrence determines that both conceptions are not fully implemented. It mostly has negatively affected credibility of deterrence. - Not clearly defined nuclear posture of US may cost some tensions in the future.
