Abstract [eng] The objective of this research is to analyze the factors influencing the characteristics of self-defense models in the United States and the manifestation of these factors within the Lithuanian self-defense doctrine. Additionally, it aims to identify and evaluate the essential elements of self-defense in both Lithuania and the United States by assessing theoretical and practical challenges, as well as the impact of these factors and elements on such challenges. Furthermore, the research seeks to propose potential solutions and recommendations for improving the regulation and structural model of the self-defense doctrine in Lithuania. To achieve this objective, the author examines the factors shaping the distinctive characteristics of self-defense models in the United States and explores how these factors are reflected in the Lithuanian legal framework governing self-defense. The study explores the historical context, as well as the theoretical and practical implementation of different self-defense models in the United States. It identifies and discusses the essential conditions for the lawful exercise of self-defense and how these are expressed within both the Lithuanian and United States legal systems. The study also addresses the legal significance and interpretation of self-defense legitimacy in both jurisdictions. Finally, the study presents potential legal reforms and policy recommendations aimed at improving the Lithuanian self-defense model and its regulatory framework. In the conclusion, the author outlines the key factors shaping the self-defense models adopted across various United States jurisdictions, highlighting their positive and negative aspects, the values they aim to protect, and the priorities they represent. The analysis also includes an assessment of the possible influence and benefits of these factors for the Lithuanian self-defense doctrine. By analyzing how U.S. self-defense principles are reflected in the Lithuanian context, the author identifies core issues related to the implementation and conceptual clarity of the Lithuanian self-defense framework. Based on the conclusions of the study, the author formulates specific proposals for the improvement of Lithuania’s self-defense model.
