Abstract [eng] This master thesis shows how family obligations are interpreted and how the idea of family has changed over the decades. The protection against discrimination of workers with family obligations and their right to benefit from the guarantees and measures available to them are discussed in this paper. The guarantees offered by the Labour Code of the Republic of Lithuania to workers with family obligations are analysed. It highlights the changing attitudes of employers towards workers with family obligations, how they communicate with such workers and how they view the measures and opportunities available to such workers under the Labour Code of the Republic of Lithuania. It also presents the perceptions of colleagues of workers with family obligations towards such workers and the guarantees provided to them. The thesis also analysed the social guarantees provided to persons with family obligations. This includes the social benefits provided in relation to targeted leave, the benefits given to the children of employees, which help employees with children. The aim was to compare the compliance of the social guarantees provided with the requirements of the European Union Directive. In reviewing the guarantees provided by the Labour Code of the Republic of Lithuania and the social security legislation, they were compared with the foreign countries of the European Union, which were selected on the basis of the gross domestic product indicator, by selecting two countries next to the Lithuanian country and the best country from the top of the list, namely Germany. The aim was to see what differences and similarities exist between the countries.
