Abstract [eng] |
Specific learning disorders (SLD) are a group of disorders that belong for special educational needs. These disorders are characterized by reading, writing, or math learning difficulties. Even though SLD have the most impact on learning, they also affect feelings and social relationships in school. However, SLD in Lithuania is not studied enough. Most studies are about educational help, but social and emotional help is studied less. Moreover, diagnosing SLD in Lithuania is complicated. It is hard to find study participants with SLD diagnosed in school, so in this study participants have reading and/or writing difficulties or think that they have SLD. This research’s goal is to study social and emotional experiences in school of adults with reading and writing difficulties. There were 5 participants. Their age was from 23 to 52 year. With each participant was conducted semi-structural interview. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was chosen for data analysis. After analysis, 7 main themes were developed: Difficulties in learning, Internal experiences of difficulties, Relationships with peers in school, Relationships with teachers, Success in learning, Help and strengths in coping with difficulties, Life of adults with reading and writing difficulties. Future research should investigate further social and emotional aspects of SLD and what kind of socio-emotional help is needed. |
