Ališauskas, D. (2025). The relationship between psychopathy, emotional awareness, and proactive and reactive aggression in young adults. Master’s thesis. Vilnius: Vilnius University. 58 p. The aim of the study was to examine the relationships between traits of psychopathy, emotional awareness, and proactive and reactive aggression in a sample of young adults. The study included 154 participants, of whom 48 were men and 106 were women. Participants were between 18 and 30 years old (M = 23.53, SD = 2.99). The average age of men was 24.35 (SD = 3.13), and of women – 23.15 (SD = 2.87). Psychopathy was assessed using the Triarchic Psychopathy Measure (TriPM), emotional awareness was measured using the Levels of Emotional Awareness Scale (LEAS), and aggression was evaluated using the Proactive and Reactive Aggression Questionnaire. Reactive aggression was statistically significantly associated with the disinhibition and meanness components. Proactive aggression was significantly associated with the meanness and disinhibition components as well. The boldness component was not related to either proactive or reactive aggression. Indicators of emotional awareness were not significantly related to either form of aggression. Regression analysis showed that both proactive and reactive aggression were significantly predicted by the meanness and disinhibition components, while emotional awareness was not a significant predictor. The regression results also revealed that both proactive and reactive aggression significantly predicted disinhibition and meanness, whereas the meanness component was additionally predicted by male gender and emotional awareness. |
