Abstract [eng] |
The title of the MA thesis. Spirituality in Dance-Movement Therapy for Nursing Home Residents As society ages, the need for assistance increases. Spiritual issues are becoming particularly relevant at this stage of life, as people tend to reflect on their lives and think about the end of life and its meaning. This reveals a growing need for assistance in addressing existential questions. Dance movement therapy is one of the possibilities based on movement/dance, interaction, and creative expression, and when applied purposefully, it also addresses spiritual issues. However, spirituality in dance movement therapy requires further investigation among older adults in nursing homes. The aim of the MA thesis. to analyse spirituality in dance movement therapy for nursing home residents. Research methods and approach. Four older patients in nursing homes participated in the study. The research strategy is qualitative research and case analysis. Data collection methods (conversation, documents, observation, interviews, diaries, documents, "Body Analysis" methodology, audio recordings) and data analysis methods (qualitative content analysis, case analysis, microanalysis, comparative analysis) were used to conduct the study. Research results and conclusions. The aspect of spirituality was qualitatively relevant to the older people who participated in the study and those in nursing homes, and this was evident in the analysis of different components of spirituality and related topics. The verbal and nonverbal expression of spirituality in individual dance-movement therapy also manifested itself differently for each participant. In nonverbal expression, a positive trend was observed, i.e., the participants initiated movements, applied them creatively, incorporated more movements and body elements, and reduced stereotypical movements, etc. In verbal expression, a change was observed in the construction of dialogue, i.e., interpersonal communication became more dynamic; a positive trend was observed in reflecting on the topic and verbally sharing life experiences or revealing painful topics and traumatic experiences. When analyzing spirituality, changes were also observed in other aspects that are relevant to older people in nursing homes, i.e. interpersonal communication, language development, emotional changes, motor development, creativity, initiative, self-reflection, self-realization, etc. Keywords: spirituality, older people, dance movement therapy, verbal and nonverbal expression. |
