Abstract [eng] The main objective of this master thesis is to investigate the impact of management measures in the chemical industry on GHG emissions. The thesis consists of three main parts: a literature review, an empirical study and analysis of the results, conclusions and suggestions. The literature review discusses the importance of the chemical industry in the world and in Lithuania and provides an overview of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the global and Lithuanian chemical industry. It also identifies management measures that can be applied in the chemical industry to reduce GHG emissions and comments on the impact of these measures on emissions. The author's study used a semi-structured interview method, with a questionnaire as an instrument for experts working in the chemical industry. A qualitative content analysis method using MAXQDA Analytics Pro 2022 software was used to evaluate the results of the study. The study revealed that managerial measures such as business strategy, management commitment, cross-functional employee involvement, business units responsible for GHG reduction, environmental management system and supply chain management influence GHG emissions indirectly but through other factors. These factors are: strategy implementation, investment, technology, performance monitoring and raw material supply. The application of circular economy principles is a management tool that has a direct impact on GHG emissions in the chemical industry. The moderating factors identified in the study are: pressure from customers, the cost of more sustainably produced products, economic benefits, the specificity of the production processes and the competences of the employees. The paper concludes by summarizing the results of the literature review and the empirical study. Also, suggestions are made for company representatives how to apply management measures to reduce GHG emissions in the chemical industry. Keywords: chemical industry, greenhouse gases, emissions, managerial measures, business strategy, management commitment, cross-functional employee involvement, structural units responsible for GHG reduction, environmental management system, supply chain management, circular economy principles.
