Abstract [eng] |
The Master's thesis aims to explore how emotional expressions in Trump's pre-election rhetoric allow for a more accurate assessment of future US foreign policy directions, decisions and reactions in a context of high geopolitical uncertainty. Using the methodological approach of Emotional Discourse Analysis, this study analyses Trump's foreign policy behaviour during the 2024 US presidential election campaign (18 July to 5 November 2024) and after the election, during the first months of his presidency (20 January to 10 April 2025). Based on the theoretical insights presented in the paper, the results of the empirical analysis shed light on the type of uncertainty that Trump constructs in his rhetoric and the ways in which it is proposed to reduce it. The results also show how the uncertainty reflected in Trump's pre-election emotional discourse signals the possible foreign policy trajectory of the new US administration. |
