Abstract [eng] |
The topic of the thesis is managerial aspects of digital tool use in preschool institutions while implementing universal design principles. The relevance of the research arises from the need for the modern education system to ensure inclusive, personalized, and high-quality education that meets the individual needs of every child. Lithuanian education policy documents emphasize that digital tools are essential for applying universal design principles to achieve accessibility and inclusion. However, preschool institution managers and educators face specific managerial challenges related to the implementation and use of these technologies. The object of the research is the managerial aspects of using digital tools in preschool education institutions in order to implement universal design principles. The aim of the research is to examine the managerial aspects of using digital tools in a preschool institution in the implementation of universal design principles. The research objectives are the following: 1. To theoretically substantiate the peculiarities of using digital tools and applying universal design principles in the context of preschool education institution management. 2. To empirically investigate the practices of using digital tools and applying universal design principles in preschool institutions in the city of Kaunas, based on the perspectives of institution leaders and educators. 3. To identify managerial challenges and opportunities arising in the implementation and use of digital tools based on universal design principles in preschool institutions in Kaunas. 4. To provide recommendations for preschool institution leaders and educators to improve the use of digital tools, based on universal design principles and research findings. The research was conducted based on an interpretivist paradigm, using semi-structured written interviews and content analysis of strategic plans from five preschool institutions in the city of Kaunas. The sample consisted of 55 participants – 21 managers and 34 teachers who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research. The results show that universal design principles emphasize inclusion, responsiveness to individual needs, and increased learning accessibility. Digital tools are considered an important means to increase children’s engagement, motivation, and individualized learning. However, obstacles such as insufficient technical infrastructure, lack of time, lack of practical knowledge, and limited funding hinder their effective use. Managerial decisions are based on strategic plans, community involvement, and available resources. A strength noted is the collaboration between managers and educators. It is recommended to increase investment in equipment, training, and technical support, also to adapt tools for special educational needs, and to strengthen educators’ competencies. |
